Technical Details:
Tanzania state railway infrastructure authority Reli Assets Holding Co has awarded Turkish company Yapı Merkezi for a contract to build the 336 km Morogoro – Makutupora 1435mmgauge line. This is the second phase of a proposed 2200 km standard gauge network which would connect Dar es Salaam with Mwanza on Lake Victoria, Kigali in Rwanda and Musongati in Burundi. The first phase is 207 km between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro. The second phase follows a similar alignment to the existing metre gauge route, and has eight passenger stations and six freight terminals. In scope of the project, Optim is responsible for hydrological study of the route including determination of the basin areas through provided large scale maps, determination of the existing hydraulic structures, estimation of the discharge values (Q20, Q50, Q100), estimation of the length and slopes of hydraulic structures, comments and recommendations based on site visit results. Synthetic calculation method is used.
